Grassy Pond Elementary 1st grade teacher Tessie Bridges was recently named the district teacher of the year for 2018.  Mrs. Bridges will represent Cherokee County in the state teacher of the year program later this school year.  The state winner will receive $25,000 and a BMW to drive during his/her year as SC Teacher of the Year.  Bridges has six years experience as a teacher  She received an early childhood education degree at the University of South Carolina and a master's degree in teaching English as a Second Language from the American College of Education in Indianapolis.

Luther Vaughan Elementary 5K kindergarten teacher Shambria Littlejohn was named the first year teacher of the year at the same ceremony.  

Mary Spanos-Beattie, school nurse, was recognized as the support staff employee for 2018.
