Employment Procedures - Teacher

  1. The applicant must submit the TalentEd Hiring Application

  2. After all required documentation is received, the Director of Human Resources will place the name in a current application database to be considered for employment.

  3. When a vacancy occurs, it will be posted in the schools and on the Cherokee County School District web site. The Director of Human Resources will send out applicants to the building principals based on the area of certification, the interview process, and consultation with the building principal.

  4. A recommendation for employment is made by the principal.

  5. The recommendation is reviewed by the Director of Human Resources and approved by the Superintendent.

  6. The Board of Trustees formally elects the recommended teacher.

  7. An employment contract is issued.

Application

The applicant must complete all information requested on the application form before it is submitted.  A recent college graduate with no teaching experience who is listed with a college placement office shall submit transcript, Praxis/NTE scores and references to the Office of Human Resources. References must include the student teaching reference and at least two other references. The heads of departments, college supervisors, or former employers should be used for references, rather than personal acquaintances. The application will remain in the incomplete file until all of the above information is received.

An experienced teacher shall submit a copy of a transcript of graduate and undergraduate courses and at least three work references. Included in these shall be a reference from the principal and/or superintendent of the district of the most recent employment. A copy of a valid teaching credential should also be sent.

Prior to employment, state law requires the district to request a criminal record history from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) for past convictions of crimes. For this reason, we require your date of birth and social security number.
